2014 Family Year Book

_RKR6038

I’ve been creating photo albums since I was a kid, back when I walked around with a disposable or film camera and took pictures of everyone and everything. I have loads of “old school” albums on my book shelf that I still love to skim through from time to time. Memories are important to me, and having those tangible items means everything.

Over 2013, I embarked on the journey that is the 365 project. It grew my photo-taking skills immensely, but left me with loads of photos unedited. I have a hard time just snapping ONE photo, I make an event of it and keep on shooting just like I always do. I love it and I’m so thankful to have the year so well documented (I promise, I will finish them this year!). So for 2014, as my business boomed, so many personal photos got put on the back burner again. I truly didn’t think I’d get to make an album that I so desperately wanted to have. So as the end of the year rolled on through, I found myself skimming through the months and making this and this end-of-year blog posts. It was then that I realized, I’ve completed enough to put a book together!

In a day and a half, I did just that. Mostly photos taken on my camera, but a few of my husband’s phone pictures as well, and we had our book ready to send off. I keep it quite simple, with only designing the front, back, and spine, and a small excerpt on the first page. It arrived much sooner than the estimated time given, and I was so elated to tear through it! I sat, humbly, flipping page by page and watching our memories unfold. Our friends, our family, our trips spanning the entire year. I could go on, but I’ll just leave the sweet details below! And yeah, I highly recommend it! Whether you have phone camera pictures, point and shoot, or DSLR – they matter. I’m not sure I’ll be putting this down anytime soon!

I have my books published through Blurb. Specific to my album, it is 13×11 with 210 uncoated pages (the paper type I selected increases the price, and to me, it’s worth it). There are so many options to create albums through Blurb, but with my choices, it ranged about 160 in price after 25% off – they regularly offer discounts.

We actually created a photo book on Shutterfly for starting in 2013. I just need to create 2014 now. With photos all being digital these days, I hardly print any out anymore. I have 10 different scrapbooks from college and the first few years of our marriage. I wanted something physical that we could hold years to come! Reply Cancel
